Chic Street Style

Ok so I love a beautiful gown as much as the next person but lets be honest the average person doesn't have too many Vera Wang gowns hanging in their closet. For day to day wear its best to stick to neutral basics and add splashes of the latest trends rather than smother yourself in them head to toe.

Whether you're heading to the mall or just on a lunch date chic casual combinations are always on trend. The key with street style is that while you want to be chic, you still want to look effortless, anything too fussy just looks overdone but too little effort makes you just look messy. These are some of the inspirational looks I found as a jumping off point for my street look.

Jessica Alba is like the queen of casual chic and shes also an expert of mixing really casual basics with glamorous accessories to create an overall polished look. I also like that she often sticks to a monochromatic pallette which appeals to the obsessive compulsive in me.

Diane Kruger arrives at LAX in a navy Diane von Furstenberg studded blazer, light-washed cuffed jeans and Christian Louboutin Corbeau flats. She completes her ensemble with a white fedora, Rochas Leti bag and aviator sunglasses.

Diane Kruger proves that street style needn't be sloppy. Jeans should be one of the staples of everyone's wardrobe...they are both comfortable and chic, dressed up or down. Also they dont steal too much of the attention and allow the other pieces of your outfit to shine. Diane Kruger effortlessly combines a simple black tee and faded blue jeans with the cutest accessories...gorgeous on the run!

Kate Beckinsale arrives at Heathrow Airport in London wearing a classic black blazer with Diane von Furstenberg printed harem pants and Casadei for Prabal Gurung strappy blade wedges. Her gray scarf and quilted bag add chic touches to her ensemble.

This is how Kate Beckinsale travels...casual, comfortable and sooo stylish. I love how she keeps the top half simple because all the detail is in the pants and shoes. And a simple black blazer can work with almost any outfit and adds instant style, whereas pairing them with a plain black pants could look a bit too formal and old, more like dressing for the courtroom rather than the mall. I also love the aviators, they work on almost every face shape and what outfit doesn't look amazing with a Chanel bag?

Selena Gomez meets with actor William H. Macy in Sherman Oaks in a chic black jacket, oversized scarf, distressed jeans and a pair of open-toe booties.

Selena Gomez looks rocker chic on the streets of Hollywood with distressed jeans and open toed booties. A simple white tee adds crispness to an otherwise dark outfit and makes her look casual, laid back and effortless, so cool!

While out and about in Los Angeles, Spring Breakers actress Vanessa Hudgens wears an ombré maxi dress.

Vanessa Hudgens looks foxy in floral with chunky bangles and metalic flats. Her look is complimented by her tossled hair which looks like she just got up, ran her fingers through and headed out the door - although we know better, street style is all about illusion, looking effortless without it actually being effortless.

Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks effortlessly chic in a white striped top, A-line suede skirt and cognac ankle booties, while out and about in Beverly Hills.

How cute does Rosie Huntington-Whiteley look in this little skirt and booties? So simple and stylish while walking on the streets of Beverley Hills.

My final street style inspiration pic had to come from Carrie... I mean Sarah Jessica Parker who epitomizes New York street chic. Having recently returned from a trip to the Big Apple myself I found it baffling that The Sex and The City's heroines would never be caught dead in shoes anything less than a couple of inches high. After a day out in New York my feet had NEVER felt so abused, so these pics of Sarah Jessica with ballet flats and sneakers are more believable and make me, a mere mortal feel better about trapecing around New York in flats...
Here she shows us one outfit, 3 ways and I like how she mixes an otherwise dressy metallic jacket with faded blue jeans, juxtaposing the formal with the casual - perfectly demonstrating what street style should be effortless, comfortable and chic!
